Daniel's Career
Growing Up, another youth-oriented show by ABS-CBN, was considered to be Daniel Padilla's big break. The show beat its top-rating competitor during its pilot episode, and it continued to dominate throughout its run. The show was where his now very popular onscreen pair-up with Kathryn Bernardo, known as KathNiel, started to gain followers. He reportedly replaced his real life best friend Albie Casiño who was originally given the role as Kathryn's leading man.
After two consecutive Sunday youth-oriented shows, Daniel finally landed a role in a primetime television series in Princess And I alongside his previous show's team-up partner, Kathryn Bernardo. He plays Gino dela Rosa, a character whom he describes as "a swaggering rich kid who will change and sacrifice a lot for the sake of love". The romantic-comedy royalty-themed series, which is currently airing, is doing well in the ratings, having already reached the 40% mark and placing second behind Walang Hanggan.
On May 28, 2012, he released his debut self-titled album, Daniel Padilla. The album has six tracks with the carrier single Hinahanap-hanap Kita which is also featured in his primetime show Princess And I. According to Star Records producer Jonathan Manalo, Daniel's debut album "flew off the shelves" and sold more than 10,000 copies in less than a week.
On June 17 of the same year, Daniel was given a Gold Record Award for the outstanding sales of his debut album, proving the phenomenal popularity of the teen actor. Boy Abunda has been quoted into saying that "In 5 years, Daniel Padilla is going to be one of the biggest stars of Philippine showbiz". Apart from high ratings for his show and a gold award for his album, his mall shows around the country also pull in a lot of fans. Reportedly, one of these shows was even cancelled due to a stampede threat.
In less than a month, he is again part of another album, Love Songs from Princess and I, which is the official soundtrack of his primetime show. He has two singles in the album, Hinahanap-hanap Kita and Gusto Kita, which he sings with his co-stars Khalil Ramos and Enrique Gil. He also shot a music video for his upcoming single release of Prinsesa.
He and Kathryn Bernardo are slated to do a movie (working title Sisterakas) with Vice Ganda and Kris Aquino for the 38th Metro Manila Film Festival.
